Cynical Quotes

Welcome to these "Cynical Quotes." The original Cynics were ancient Greek philosophers whose purpose was to live a life of virtue in agreement with nature. For these Cynics, happiness was a virtue, and was achieved through self-sufficiency and mastery of their own minds. The ancient Cynics focused on the goodness of nature, and attributed suffering to grasping for wealth, fame, and power.

In modern times, the word cynical has come to mean "doubting the sincerity of human motivations and actions." Is cynicism an appropriate view toward life? While cynicism is far too harsh an attitude to hold toward most individuals, some institutions (such as the whole political infrastructure) appear to be completely deserving of a cynical approach.
